ABOUT SARAH

Rooted in Taranaki, shaped by experience

Sarah Lucas is an Opportunity candidate for New Plymouth, a small-business owner and manufacturer, and a long-standing community advocate. She lives in Taranaki with her husband and their three teenage sons.

Her career has spanned social work, mental-health management, conservation strategy, governance and local government. Across every role, Sarah has focused on bringing people together and turning evidence into practical action.

Experience that connects people, place and policy

Small business and manufacturing

Running a business has given Sarah a first-hand view of the pressures facing households, employers and regional communities — and the value of clear rules, long-term thinking and getting things done.

Community, social services and governance

Sarah has worked as a social worker and mental-health manager, held governance roles, and contributed to local government including the Community Board Executive.

Conservation, local government and a wider perspective

Her work in conservation strategy and her experience living and working in post-war Kosovo and Nepal have strengthened her belief in local leadership, resilient communities and decisions that protect the future. Outside work, Sarah enjoys Taranaki’s trails and ocean and volunteers as a surf lifeguard.
