Learn about Sarah Lucas, Opportunity, how your two votes work under MMP, and what campaign support does—and does not—buy.

How do my two votes work under MMP?

Your electorate vote helps choose the MP for your local electorate. Your party vote largely determines each qualifying party’s share of seats in Parliament.

You can keep the electorate candidate you trust and still Party Vote Opportunity.

Why do people talk about 5% and around 6%?

A party normally qualifies for list seats by receiving at least 5% of the nationwide party vote or winning an electorate. Opportunity is campaigning towards around 6%, which could translate to roughly seven seats and bring Sarah into Parliament.

That is a campaign milestone, not a guarantee. See how MPs are elected →

Can I support Sarah if another electorate candidate is my first choice?

Yes. Your two votes are separate. You can vote for the electorate candidate you trust locally and use your party vote to support Opportunity.

What does campaign support pay for?

Support helps fund lawful campaign communication and organising, including signs, printed material, public events, voter contact, volunteer coordination and digital communication.

What does “Your support buys reach, never influence” mean?

A donation helps Sarah reach more voters; it never buys privileged access, silence, a policy commitment or a favourable decision. Opportunity is not for sale. Sarah is not for sale. New Zealand’s ethics and community spirit are not for sale.

How are donations and campaign sign-ups handled?

Donations and campaign sign-ups are handled through Opportunity’s systems. Sarah’s local campaign receives the relevant supporter details so the team can follow up appropriately.
